Summerthing

Greetings from InCoAlMo! We hope you’re all having a great summer!*

*(or, for our InCoAlMo artists south of the equator, a great winter!)

But the summer (or winter) is almost half over! The midpoint halfway between the solstice and the equinox is August 7.

To celebrate, InCoAlMo challenges you to Summerthing (which you can call Winterthing, if that's appropriate where you're at).

InCoAlMo’s Summerthing Challenge: Produce a piece for the Summer (or Winter) before it's over.

You want rules? We got rules. Well, let’s call them “guidelines”, shall we?

The Rule of Summer

The piece should be in some way about “Summer”. That can be lyrically, or musically, or just because it makes you think of summer, or because it was written in the summer. What it means is really up to you.

(Again, those in the Southern Hemisphere can feel free to rock a “Winter” theme instead.)

The Rule of Thing

The piece should be a thing that you want to share. What constitutes a thing is up to you it can be original or a cover, music or spoken word, sound art or something wild about the length of a song, or more, or less, however you see fit. The real goal is to keep your creative juices flowing and be able to share your art.

The Rule of New

The piece should be new to you. Newly written, newly re-envisioned, newly covered ... in whatever way, new enough to challenge you to create.

The Rule of Start

The piece should be started no earlier than now. (If you already started producing your piece before reading this announcement, let’s talk I have some questions about the stock market.) However, if now until the equinox isn't enough of a challenge, you can put off starting until September 1 (which puts you perfectly off-season from our main challenge in March)!

The Rule of Done

The piece should be completed (whatever that means to you) by season's end, which means no later than the equinox (September 22). After that, it’s no longer summer, but it’s time to share our pieces and our memories of summer (yes, or winter, as appropriate).

Head on over to THE SIGNUP to get on board!

As always, the best place to ask questions or get advice and inspiration from the rest of us is on the InCoAlMo Discord. Hope to see you all there.

Welcome to Summerthing!
