The concept is usually conceived towards the end.
Artist Post-Game:
This year I focused on just keeping the process fun and not a drag. I didn't force myself into any constraints or standards. Part of that is because I know I have certain standards I hold to anyway: no bullshit, sounds good to at least me if not to anyone else, something is better than nothing. In the end I'm happy with what I produced.
Could I have done more? On the one hand, yes. I had enough hours when I COULD have been working on this that I didn't that I clearly could have done more. On the other hand, no. I did what I was mentally capable of and I am not ashamed of the result. So, y'know, a win in that I made more music I like.
In other news, Voisona is freakin' amazing. Also, Helium Sequencer gets me closer to the DAW I need than anything else so far. Those two tools are MAJOR additions to my toolkit. Without these my output this year would have been substantially less.
